Beyond the bin

The Process

Your green bin, containing your food and garden scraps, is emptied every week

Step 02.

Your food scraps are collected in a kitchen caddy or container ready for the green bin

Step 01.

Food and garden scraps from Coffs Harbour City Council, Bellingen Shire Council and Nambucca Valley Council are collected ready for processing

Step 04.

Your food and garden scraps are transported to the Biomass Solutions facility in Coffs Harbour

Step 03.

Contamination is removed and sent to landfill. Remember, NO plastic, compostable or biodegradable bags (these items can contaminate the resulting compost)

Step 05.

The food and garden scraps are shredded and stored. Remember, NO thick branches, stumps or logs (these won’t fit through the shredder)

Step 06.

The material is transformed into compost in long climate-controlled bays, with regular turning by machine

Step 07.

Air separation and screening processes remove further contamination and oversize material

Step 08.

The final nutrient-rich compost is stored on site

Step 09.

Compost is sold to market gardens, urban landscape suppliers and the agriculture industry
